Tarangire National Park
A fun & convenient aspect of travelling between locations on safari was the fact that we flew on small bush planes. It was a 20 minute flight from Arusha to Tarangire where we stayed at Elewana Tarangire Treetops in an elevated treehouse suite perched high up with a huge balcony. Very cool. Second to the Serengeti, Tarangire has the greatest concentration of wildlife in Tanzania. We saw herds of elephants, buffalo, zebra, impala, gazelle and eland and lots of giraffe.
Diane & I fell in love with the Cape Buffalo. When we first saw a large herd, they slowly started to approach the jeep, all the time staring intently at us while we stared at them. They are so majestic and powerful. At the beginning of our first full day in the area, we visited a Masai settlement where a warrior, his 8 wives and numerous children live. It was a real eye opener and we left very humbled that we have so much while these people have so little. Yet our guide says they are a happy people. At the end of the day at sundowner, we were treated to cocktails and nibbles on a high hill while watching the sunset. Beautiful.
I've also posted some of the many beautiful birds we saw throughout Tarangire.
