Portugal 2023
I first visited Portugal in 1990 when I didn't have the best experiences & the food was terrible. So after 33 years, I decided to give it another try. I'm glad I did although the weather was not great ... 7 days out of 10 rained. I divided my time between stays in Lisbon & Porto & went on 4 day trips from these 2 cities, which allowed me to see some of the coastal & northern parts of Portugal. I saw amazing places including an enchanting palace, wine country with port tasting, beautiful cathedrals & sanctuaries, charming villages & the dramatic cliffs of Nazare. The food & wine were amazing this time!

Lisbon
Lisbon, Portugal's capital, is ramshackle, trendy & charming with its ironwork balconies, multicolored tiles, mosaic sidewalks & red-tiled roofs.
Porto
Porto, Portugal's 2nd largest city, is located in the north. It is best known for its colourful riverfront, the Ribeira district. The guide books describe Porto as "bohemian chic" but my impression of it falls short of that description. However, there were definitely photogenic places.
Other Portugal
I went on 4 day trips that allowed me to see some of the coastal & northern parts of Portugal, including vineyards steeply terraced along the Douro River, cliffs of Nazare, Pena Palace, Fatima, & the pretty medieval town of Obidos, among other lovely places.
