Ngorongoro Crater & Lake Manyara National Park
It was another 20 minute flight to the Ngorongoro Region, where we stayed at the luxurious Elewana Manor House. Our accommodation was a cottage suite within manicured gardens that had a sitting room, fireplace and enormous bathroom. Our butler lit our fireplace when it was time to retire. The Ngorongoro Crater is one of the most breathtakingly impressive sights to behold in Africa. 18 kilometers in diameter, the crater is a caldera formed at a time of volcanic eruption and now home to an abundance of wildlife. The day that we went to Ngorongoro Crater started off rainy & foggy at the top of the crater, but by the time we descended, we were greeted by the most beautiful colourful landscapes and skies. This was our favourite place on the trip. We saw our first lions here, posing in fields of wild flowers. How perfect is that.
We also had a game drive in Lake Manyara National Park the next day. It is a smaller park but its vegetation is diverse, ranging from savannah to marsh to evergreen forest (11 ecosystems in all). Most of the birds in this gallery are from this region.
