INTRODUCTION

Judy and I concluded 2 years of our photo project as of December 2015.   This gallery includes all 24 months of our very fun and creative challenge.

In 2016, we are doing a group challenge with photography friends (2016 Group Challenge)

DECEMBER 2015 - STILLNESS

Can you hear the silence?

NOVEMBER 2015  - CURVES

My curves images, mostly architectural,  were all taken in Cuba a few weeks ago.  Thanks to Maggie for finding  the curved bench.  Judy's are "home grown" and very creative.  Particularly love the abstract!
OCTOBER 2015 - MOODS

Judy captured her gorgeous mood images in beautiful Ireland.  Love them all, particularly the tree lined lane with that lovely light coming through.  Most of mine were taken in Algonquin Park area.

SEPTEMBER 2015 - NOSTALGIA

For the 1st time during this 2 year project, Judy and I went to Pioneer Village to shoot together, which was a lot of fun.  The 1st 3 of my images and all of Judy's are taken at the historical museum in Toronto.  We only have one image that is similar!  The bear in my 4th image is holding my sister Mary's christening gown, made by my mom.  The carousel shot is taken at Lakeside Park in Port Dalhousie where rides still go for 5 cents!  My niece Linda is a volunteer for The Friends of the Carousel  and she has been involved in the restoration of the beautifully crafted animals.  The last one stems from a sentimental re-read of  letters and cards from Joe, the love of my life and good friend, who passed away much too young.

AUGUST 2015 - WATERFRONT

The 1st 2 of my images were taken at Port Dalhousie just before a rain storm, in which I got drenched!  The last one is taken at Port Rowan, a fishing village on Lake Erie.  Judy's were taken at Lakefront Promenade Park, Mississauga Marina.  She used 3 different techniques on her last 3 images  - painting, selective colour and motion blur.

JULY 2015 - SELECTIVE COLOUR

The adorable little girls were taken at my great-niece's wedding.  Judy and I have both submitted 'dueling' cat's eye images ... my Gracie and  Judy's Mork.  I love the selective red on the 'matador'.

JUNE 2015 - COMPOSITE MONTAGES

This technique requires merging two (or more) photographs with  one of the choices being a textured image which gives a painterly result.   My texture backgrounds and subjects, which were shot mostly in Prague, include grave stone inscriptions, graffiti, broken glass and cobblestones.  Judy's composite images are always so beautiful.  She is a master of this technique!  Her last image is a mirror montage.

If you would like to see more of my montages, please click on this link, which will take you to the page:  'montages'

MAY 2015 - WIDE ANGLE

I had the pleasure of being in Paris and Prague, two beautiful cities, to capture my images.  I had lots of material to choose from!  Judy's were taken at a former German POW camp located in Ontario.  Who knew?!

APRIL 2015 - MONOCHROME

Some things look better as a monochrome.  Sometimes colour can be distracting as it may be hard to focus on the main subject due to too much colour.  Monochrome keeps you focused on the actual composition and texture of the photo as well as shapes, light and shadows, lines and perspective.
MARCH 2015 - PATTERNS

My selection included patterns in nature, while Judy chose manmade, graphic patterns.    My 2 butterfly images reflect 'patterns on patterns' while the 4th one is a macro shot of icicles.  Judy's intriguing images were taken at the defunct Lanaconing Silk Mill located in Maryland.

FEBRUARY 2015 - SOFT

The first thought that came to mind when Judy selected this topic was the silky fur of my sweet Gracie who very conveniently snuggled into a plushy throw to pose for me.  My 3rd image is a montage of a rose and the downy feathers shown in the 2nd.  Judy also chose her beautiful (but tempermental!) kitty Menily as a close up subject.  I LOVE her smoke image!  I have a few more soft images on the 'more soft' page.

JANUARY 2015 - MOTION

As both of us vacationed in Cuba this month (different locations), our images reflect the 'motion' of Havana, with its unique vehicles  as well as  the ocean.  The wind blown flag represents Cuba.

DECEMBER 2014 - WHITE

Judy's selection includes photographs of her grandmother's beautiful dress and the hand made baby dress, which I believe was Judy's (this is a real antique, ha ha).

I loved this topic.  I had a lot of fun getting close ups of white flowers and  venturing out after the mid-December snow storm.  My favourite image, however, is the ruff of my beautiful cat, Gracie.  Please click on more white to see other images.
NOVEMBER 2014 - SELECTIVE FOCUS

For those of you who aren't as familiar with photographic techniques, selective focus is defined as 'use of limited depth of field sharply on a specific part of the image to isolate or emphasise it, while the other parts are out-of-focus.'  We chose quite different subject matters this time.  The image of the jewellery is meaningful to me; the wedding rings belonged to my parents and they gave me the locket.  :)

OCTOBER 2014 - WINDOWS

We were both in the US (different states) this month and selected  images taken at a historical farmer's museum.

P.S.  A couple of people have mentioned that see an outline of a woman wearing a veil in the far right window of the 1st image.   Maybe this is a haunted house!  After all, it was taken close to Halloween!
SEPTEMBER 2014 - SYMMETRY

We both enjoyed exploring this topic and applied the mirror montage technique  (the first 2 of my images and Judy's), which expresses the power of symmetry.

AUGUST 2014 - TEXTURES

This is the 1st time we have chosen the exact same subject of a sunflower from a very similar angle!  Judy's 3rd image is a lovely composite of texture on texture.   My remaining 3 images  include the innards of a very old truck tire; rusted hub cap detail; and detail of an old barn.

JULY 2014 - COMPLEMENTARY COLOURS

My images were taken in Provence  when the lavender, sunflower and poppy fields were in bloom - perfect for the complementary colour combinations of yellow/purple, red/green, and blue/orange.  More of my  images can be found in the 'more colours' tab, to which you can directly link by clicking the yellow highlight. Two of Judy's images include gorgeous water lilies, as well as one with her creative staging.

JUNE 2014 - AGED

This is a first for us.  We both chose old vehicles as subjects!  The book is 100 years old and belonged to my father; the doily and cross were crocheted by my mother.
MAY 2014 - IMPRESSIONS OF SPRING

Judy's images are lovely renditions of  "romanticizing" spring by developing creative photo set ups.  My daffodils  & tulips were done using the multiple exposure setting in-camera and applying an oil painting filter.  For the blossoms I used the montage technique of merging it with a texture image.   I had a lot of fun with this topic, so I have included some more in the 'additional spring impressions' folder, which you can link to by clicking the yellow highlights.
APRIL 2014 - SOLITUDE

What a great topic - the interpretations are endless!  Judy and I agree that this challenge has been the best thing to improve our photographic vision.  Judy's submission includes a peaceful spot in Magnolia Plantations, a solitary tree overtaken by the ocean and a quite literal translation of a 'solitary' prison cell!  Mine were taken at Long Point beach on a foggy day and at a local park after the last snowfall of the season.
MARCH 2014 - MINIMALIST

Again, our interpretations of the topic are quite different, which makes this project so much fun!
FEBRUARY 2014 - GLASS

We had quite the variety of creative glass images, from close-ups to high rise buildings.  It's always so interesting to see what different visions we have.  Judy's creations include the first 3 of bottles and I'm not sure how she did the fourth one - very intriguing!   Mine include frost on my kitchen window, some funky artwork and  Toronto office buildings.

JANUARY 2014 - SHADOWS

The 1st 3 images are mine.  The 1st was taken in early January on a very frigid day!  The other 2 were shot in much more comfortable temperatures while in lovely Cuba.  The 3rd image is of the sun shining through the curtains of our Cuban retreat.

Judy's  images were taken in warmer climate as well!  The 1st one was shot  in Zion National Park in late afternoon (you can see the moon has risen).  The other was of her husband's shadow in the Valley of Fire Park.
